As of October 2024, Alex is celebrating one year of employment at Cabela’s! This milestone represents more than just time – it’s a first for Alex and a testament to his resilience and personal growth.

Fresh out of high school, Alex had never held a job before and knew he wanted support entering the working world.

“I wanted a job,” Alex says. “OWL didn’t just help me get one, they helped me figure out how everything works, like interviews. Things school never really prepared me for.”

Alex partnered with Employment Coordinator Jessica to build a resume, practice interviewing, and participate in work adjustment training in preparation for job placement. For Alex, work adjustment included three months of paid training at OWL’s manufacturing facility, Lexington Manufacturing Center. This real, hands-on experience helped Alex refine key habits like punctuality and strengthen essential skills like teamwork.

Alex now works full-time, enjoys his coworkers, and – like any savvy shopper – appreciates his employee discount. With a grin, he’ll tell you that the one thing he would change about his job is that they play country music on the radio.

“I’m really proud of Alex,” Jessica shares. “He’s stuck with it, even when his friends moved on to different jobs. His commitment is admirable.”

A man of few words, Alex proves that actions speak louder than anything else. Today, if you walk through the clothing department at Cabela’s, you’ll find it impeccably maintained – a reflection of his work ethic.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Alex has found a supportive community and stability here in Lexington. While he’s quick to credit OWL for helping him along the way, it’s his hard work that led to this achievement and we couldn’t be prouder.
