“It’s a rough story, but it’s mine,” Lloyd says with a smile.

Today, Lloyd’s life looks very different than it did just two years ago.

Lloyd came from a challenging environment, surrounded by unstable family members, limited opportunities, and drug use. The journey to stability wasn’t easy— he encountered setbacks and situations that threatened his progress. Yet, through determination, Lloyd built his fresh start.

Starting work at LMC two years ago was a pivotal moment. Here, he found a support system. With the help of his colleagues, Lloyd settled into his role as a Packer—a job he enjoys—and began putting down roots.

“It’s not just a paycheck…,” he says, reflecting on how LMC has become an anchor in his life. “It’s a community here. I’m a little shy, probably because of my past and my history, but they really helped me a lot. I’m grateful for that.”

In just a short time, Lloyd has achieved several life milestones – all firsts. For the first time, he has his own apartment, benefits, and a retirement savings plan. Lloyd also purchased a car for the first time just this month and is about to pass the two year mark of his sobriety!

He says the support and guidance he’s received from colleagues and supervisors have helped keep him on track to achieve these goals.

His voice is full of pride as he speaks of these accomplishments, many of which felt out of reach not long ago. “In the past, people have underestimated me, but I feel like I used to underestimate myself more than anything,” Lloyd admits.

Lloyd is now focused on the future. His advice for others who are where he was a few years ago is simple but powerful: “Show up every day and work hard. If you stick with it, you can achieve your goals.”

Lloyd’s story is one of overcoming the odds, proving that with determination and the right support, a fresh start is possible.
